In the third book in the Bess Truly series, Bess and her friends travel to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to celebrate National Aviation Day in 1956. What starts as a fun surprise visit with her friends to the Atlantic Ocean becomes a mystery as strange events build one on top of another, until Bess has to solve the mystery of the Hyaline Shark!
I had a lot of fun writing this. Set in 1956, places that are now institutions were brand new, like the Sea Foam Motel and the Oregon Inlet Fishing Pier. Even the pier near the beach house where Bess stays is only semi-fictional. But at the same time, there really is little difference in the light hearted parts of beach life, whether they happen in 1956, or 1976, or today. And I got to mix in some fun retro enemies from the Fifties. Just like my other Bess Truly books, all chapters end on a cliffhanger, and they are all really exciting!
