Bess Truly gets her wish when she wants something exciting to happen while sitting at home in her ranch at Three Winds, New Mexico. She receives word that her father and his flying craft, the Starlighter, have gone missing in the desert, so she sets off with her horse Electra to find him and bring him back.
Little does she know that there is much more to this adventure. She discovers that not only are there more people to save, but they are all in great danger. A group of refugees who were being held captive by the evil moon men that attacked her town in Bess Truly And Her Zap-Gun Rangers have escaped, but are now pursued by the last of the dangerous soldiers from outer space. Bess is fortunate that she is not alone, as her friends Aurora, Lydia, and Jesse come to help her once again.
Bess has to find her father, save a group of children, women, and men from being taken away, and fight off a dangerous, deadly attack from a ship from outer space. But with her friends' help and her mother's invention, the Zap-Gun, Bess will always find a way.

It's a great cliffhanger chapter book, written like the old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books of old, but with a bit more risk and adventure. It has a bit of light schi-fi, a fun ray-pop appeal, for both kids and adults, and is mostly a wild and exciting adventure book for all ages.
